Biography

Rae Massop is a registered social worker and psychotherapist specializing in stress management, mindfulness-based issues, relationship issues, personal development, and anxiety reduction. Her client focus includes, youth, adults, seniors, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, and BIPOC individuals.  Throughout her years of experience in the field of mental health, she has helped individuals regain control of their lives and find peace amidst life’s challenges. Massop’s expertise lies in incorporating evidence-based therapeutic approaches with a holistic and client-centered focus, allowing her clients to embark on a transformative journey towards emotional well-being.

Intrigued by the complexities of the mind, she pursued her academic undergraduate journey in psychology and social work at McMaster University and Trent University.  Her dedication to helping others navigate the struggles of modern life led her to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Toronto.

Deeply committed to her clients’ well-being, Massop’s therapeutic approach is a harmonious blend of evidence-based therapeutic practices and mindfulness principles.  Common approaches that she utilizes include, mindfulness-based stress reduction, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy.  She believes in treating each person as a unique individual with their own set of struggles and strengths, crafting personalized treatment plans that cater to their specific needs.

Mindfulness, a central element of her practice, is interwoven into her therapy sessions, allowing clients to develop a heightened awareness of their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours.  By cultivating mindfulness, clients learn to break free from the grip of negative thought patterns, gain insight into their emotions, and find new ways to respond skillfully to life’s challenges.

In addition to her focus in mindfulness-based therapies, Massop is a seasoned practitioner of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She employs CBT to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to their distress. By working collaboratively with her clients, she empowers them to replace negative thought patterns with more constructive ones, leading to healthier emotional responses and positive behavioral changes.
